Malaika Kids supports orphaned and vulnerable children in Tanzania. At any one time we have around 200 children and young people in our care. Our aim is to provide them with a safe home, a caring family atmosphere and a good education to give them a secure future.
In the UK we have no paid staff and 97% of the donations we receive go to fund our operations in Tanzania.
Children are brought to our Reception Home in Dar es Salaam and if possible are reunited with their families and provided with monthly food and clothing parcels through our Relatives Support Programme. Where this is not possible, the children come to live in our Children’s Village in Mkuranga (CVM) 44 kilometres outside Dar.
The children are housed in groups of 10 under the care of a house mother. CVM has a nursery for the smallest children, while older children go to nearby primary and secondary schools. As secondary teaching is in English, we put a particular emphasis on teaching English to all our children from an early age.
At CVM we aim to be self-sufficient, growing much of our own food and generating our electricity via solar panels.
