This charity running event is truly overwhelming, when you arrive at the start you are completely bowled over by the sheer number of people. As you would expect with 50,000 people in one place there is a queue for everything! The sheer number of charity runners is why this event deserves true credit; you can't help but get chatting to other charity runners around you. Doctors and Nurses, Mr, Men, Superheroes you name it and you will see it. As the race gets started (probably by Ant & Dec) it is a sight you will never forget, 50,000 people all trying to move off together as the red arrows swoop over your head is incredible. You will experience an electric atmosphere as you run past Tyne Bridge with bands playing, huge number of spectators and kind locals handing out custard creams and anything they have in the fridge! The end of the race finishes with a fantastic view of the sea a vision of true emotion as charity runners achieve their goals and are greeted by supporters, friends and family.
This is one of the biggest fundraising events in the charity running calendar so push the boat out and go for £1000. There is so much support from charities for this race so make sure you don't let them down.
The streets are lined with people, charities are out in force and music and entertainment is put on throughout the course. Fantastic!
You are training for a half marathon of epic proportions so make sure you are ready to take it on. Use a half marathon training plan and practice people dodging in the street, it will really help you on race day.
The Great Run team are incredibly efficient; looking after such a huge number of runners is no easy thing to do. All the information provided is excellent and there is a true push towards fundraising for charity. On the day you can simply say they have everything under control. Amazing goody bags and the medals won't be bad either.
