The Perkins great Eastern Run has a fantastic feel about it with a great mix of club and charity runners lined up at the start. Keep an eye out for the fancy dress runners who seem to come out in force in this race donning anything from superheroes, smurf's to cockroache costumes! Whatever takes your fancy! As you get going on the run, you can clearly see there is fantastic support for this race and the organisers have really worked on trying to create a big city race atmosphere for runners to enjoy. Once into your stride through the Embankment, you are taken through the city centre and past the beautiful Norman Arch entrance to the stunning Peterborough Cathedral. There is a number of sections of the race where you can hear music and in past years they have used wartime memorial bands which has a habit of putting you in a very patriotic mood. As you near the end of the race, there is a great section laid out with seating to allow charities, friends and family to cheer all the runners over the line. You will often see emotional scenes at the end of this race as charity runners complete their task of raising money for a loved one that couldn't be with them on the day.
This half marathon is really growing as a charity event and a target of £700 is achievable by everyone running for a good cause. Why not take this event on in fancy dress? Check out the run for charity fundraising A to Z for some great ideas to help you reach your target.
The support on race day for the size of the event is fantastic, everyone gets involved from local charities, businesses and government. The start and finish of the race see amazing support and it is rare that you will pass a section with no supporters at all. Everyone is very friendly so keep an eye out for friendly faces offering jelly sweets and bottles of water.
Being a fast half marathon course, you should make the most of the opportunity to run a PB or set one if it is your first race. Make sure you allow plenty of time to train and use a half marathon training plan and possibly practice a sprint finish.
Before the race, you will receive all the information that you require and the website is helpful and informative. The race is well organised and it is clear that everyone involved want this race to be a great success.  The medals are good and there is even an engraving service available if you want to go that extra step.
