Arriving at any marathon course in June will feel strange and arriving at lunch time feels even stranger! The race starts just outside the Olympic stadium and travelling there you will realise that the whole city is alive with marathon fever. Stockholm is often regarded as the sexiest city in Europe and lining up with 1000's of beautiful Swedish people at the start of a marathon will help reconfirm this statement. If you compare the race to the big 5 it is very small but as you travel around the city on the 2 lap course the crowds that cheer you on will make you feel as if you are running the biggest marathon in the world. Just simply enjoy the run and take in all of the views along the shores of the Baltic which are incredible. When you reach the the second lap keep an eye out for the Vesterbon Bridge, you have crossed it once so you should know what to expect. The last few miles are slightly uphill but keep the faith as the Olympic stadium will be in site and therefore the finish and a big cheer. Charity runners get a great round of applause as they finish from the very happy local people.
This marathon is easy to get excited about as it's in an amazing city and finishes in the Olympic stadium. Look to raise at least £1,500. Check out the run for charity fundraising A to Z for some great ideas to help you reach your target.
Support is very good on the day except for a couple of small sections. You won't see many recognisable charities there but you can be assured that your chosen charity will be willing you on every step of the way.
Full marathon training so make sure you sign up nice an early. Be warned the roads are really hard in Stockholm so you need to do some conditioning on your legs and back for a whole marathon on a hard surface. If you ignore this expect knee and even back injuries!
The organisation of this race is second to none. All information will be informative and precise. All documents can be obtained in English and charities will find it easy to deal with the Stockholm race team.
