Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of running

Loch Ness in Scotland is the perfect venue for a charity run and the festival of running really does tick all of the boxes. There is a distance for all abilities to take on and the scenery really is perfect. The organisers really try hard to put this event out as a charity event, so don't let them down!

About the race

The great thing about the Loch Ness Festival of running is quite simply the scenery, whichever run you decide to take up you will enjoy. The 5k and 10k races are very much open to everyone of any ability and sees plenty of spectators on the course. It is fantastic that the 10k race starts and finishes in a stadium as this always gives a race extra appeal. The organisers work very hard to make these races charity orientated and it is great to see the level of charity support especially at the starts and finishes. The marathon truly is a test of your metal, giving you a flying start with a number of downhills and then punishing you for enjoying them by providing a number of up hills towards the end of the race. If you have done your training, when you reach the stretch alongside the Loch, you really will be happy as it is one of the most beautiful stretches of any marathon in the world. The end of the marathon sees a huge level of support, a great deal of those who finished the earlier races will come along to cheer you as you finish.

Fundraising

Depending on the distance that you choose to take on, your fundraising target will of course change. Aim for £1500 in the Marathon, £375 in the 10k and £175 in the 5K. Think of some Loch Ness monster sized fundraising ideas and these targets should be easy for you. Check out the run for charity fundraising A to Z for some great ideas to help you reach your target.

Support on race day

All the races see a good level of support but mainly at the starts and finishes. The 10k stadium finish really helps this race and hopefully they will never change that course. Look out for the charity support as this tends to be excellent. If you are running for charity you will not be alone!

Training

Whichever race you take on ,.you should make sure you do some hill training especially if you are doing the marathon. Otherwise ,just make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare as per the run for charity training plans.

Quality of race organisers

All the races in this festival are really well organised and the pre race information is of a very high standard. They have one very difficult task still to overcome and that is the buses to the start of the races. Great finishers medal and the goody bag is very decent also.
