The race in Lisburn is a well organised and well publicised affair. It is plain to see that this is a real community event and they really try and make charity a big factor in the race. As you start you will see very quickly that a great deal of charity runners are running for the official charities but this is by no means a prerequisite so do make sure you run and fundraise for your own chosen cause. When the run gets going the first thing that will hit you will be the number of hills, this really is a race of endurance as you should not consider going off at your normal pace as you will lose all momentum and timing when you hit a few of the nastier hills! As you get towards the end of the race there are some fantastic views of this beautiful area in Northern Ireland and the support will start to grow in magnitude which helps you finish the race strongly. Unfortunately the end of the race can get quite busy as it seems to bottle neck slightly but this gives you time to enjoy the scenery for just a little longer.
You should aim for £300 in the 10K and £700 in the half marathon. Think of some fundraising ideas around the fact you are running in Northern Ireland. Check out the run for charity fundraising A to Z for some great ideas to help you reach your target.
There is a great feel to these races especially if you are local to the area. You will not see any travelling charity support but the local charities really make a good show. The support along the course is very much at the start and finish.
Depending on which race you choose, the 10k or the half marathon you should use the correct training plan to correspond but which ever race you are doing you must do plenty of hill training or you will not enjoy yourself at all!
Good organisation before the race, the online entry is easy to use and the information provided is as you would expect. The race is well marshalled but the end of the race slightly lets the whole thing down.
