Our neighbours are two of the most isolated groups in the UK. Many have experienced prolonged periods of self-isolation as a result of multiple lockdowns. Research shows that loneliness is as detrimental to your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. A recent survey by the Coop states that 39% of adults don't think their feelings of loneliness will go away after Covid-19 and 92% of people think a sense of community has a role to play in supporting people experiencing loneliness.
North London Cares is a community network of older (65+) and younger (18+) people coming together across Camden and Islington to share time, joy and laughter. We do this because whilst our capital is vibrant, fun and exciting, it can equally be isolating, lonely and difficult to know your neighbours. We tackle loneliness and build stronger communities through four core programmes: 25 monthly group Social Clubs, long-term one-to-one, mutually beneficial friendships (93 active), Proactive Outreach which is how we identify and reach out to those most at risk of isolation, and Community Fundraising the way in which we raise money ensuring that all our activities are free of charge.
