We Are Beams is a local charity that supports disabled children and their families in Kent and Medway.
The disabled children and young people who access our services are aged 4-25 years and will typically have one or multiple learning difficulties, complex health needs, physical or sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, Autism or severe ADHD.
We need to raise £2 million in order to continue our care services to the most vulnerable in society. At any one time, we support 450 children and families.
Our funding comes through grants, donations, charitable giving and a supporting community/business sector working alongside local authority Social Services.
Our work is divided up into six key areas.
1. Family Advice Service-offering parenting programmes, parent support groups, 1-1 clinics, support with EHCPs, telephone helpline
2. Short Breaks Services-offering holiday playschemes, after-school clubs, family outings, and day trips
3. Direct Payment Service- supporting parents in receipt of a direct payment. Currently, 1100 families are on our books.
4. Dragon’s Retreat Respite Unit-offering 6 beds for young people aged 8-18 years
5. Brokerage Service- person-centred planning and support brokerage to young people aged 18-25 years.
6. Payroll Service-assisting families with their direct payments payroll and recruiting PAs.
