Tiny Tickers is a small national charity that improves the early detection, care and treatment of babies who have congenital heart defects.
A baby is born with a serious heart condition every two hours in the UK and despite congenital heart disease (CHD) being one of the UK's biggest killers of infants, over 1,000 newborns leave hospitals every year without anybody realising they have a potentially life-threatening heart condition. These babies often fall into the early stages of heart failure – significantly impacting long-term quality of life.
Early detection means immediate support and care and a better start. We inform and empower parents-to-be about their 20-week scan and raise awareness of the five potential signs of undiagnosed CHD.
We are the sole provider of hospital-based fetal cardiac screening training for UK sonographers, enhancing the confidence and skills sonographers need to detect heart defects during routine pregnancy scans. We support families by providing practical information, online support and peer-to-peer advice; giving parents the information they need to navigate this challenging time
We ensure the voices of parents and the needs of babies are heard by those setting standards.
