Read for Good enables, empowers and motivates children and young people to discover the joy of reading. We are a national charity, working right across the UK.
We have been making hospitals a better place for children since 2010, by harnessing the simple but incredibly effective power of books and stories. Our cheery mobile bookcases, packed with carefully chosen titles plus regular visits from our much-loved storytellers, have been proven to comfort, distract, educate and entertain.
Our flagship programme Readathon, motivates school children across the UK to read by taking part in sponsored reading events to help fund our hospital programme. Children love to help other children. The magic happens though when they realise that reading whatever they like- instead of whatever they are told to -is fun and for many children can kickstart a life changing love of reading with all the benefits this brings.
We do this because children and young people who read for fun are more likely to do well at school, find better jobs and lead happier, fulfilled lives. In turn, their children are also more likely to reach their full potential, helping to break intergenerational cycles of under-achievement and build a more equal society.
