Did you know that 2.4 million adults in England alone find reading difficult or cannot read at all?
This means that everyday tasks like reading letters, filling in forms and following written instructions are impossible. Being unable to read lowers self-confidence, impacts wellbeing and limits opportunities.
Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to one coaching for adults who want to learn to read. We are the only charity that offers this kind of support, which is delivered locally by our trained volunteer Coaches.
By helping adults learn to read we:
- Enable parents and grandparents to read stories to their children and support their education
- Improve employment opportunities and allow some to take the first steps out of poverty
- Make everyday living – from planning a trip to paying bills – much less challenging
- Help reduce feelings of isolation, loneliness and low self-esteem
- Give them the confidence to take a more active part in their communities
