Carers UK

Carers UK - we are here to make life better for carers.

5.8 million people in the UK are unpaid carers, looking after a family member or friend who is older, disabled, or seriously ill. These carers dedicate themselves daily, often without recognition or support, facing financial and emotional challenges while balancing their own lives.

  • 2.6 million people have given up work to care – that’s 600 people a day.
  • 1.2 million unpaid carers live in poverty, and 400,000 live in deep poverty in the UK.
  • From our State of Caring survey 2025, 49% of carers said they have cut back on essentials such as food, heating, clothing and transport costs.
  • 74% of carers said they had felt stressed or anxious, and 40% feel depressed. 35% of carers said their mental health was bad or very bad.

Carers UK is here to make life better for carers. We provide information, advice, and practical support, while campaigning to secure better rights and recognition. With growing demands and rising costs, our work is more crucial than ever. Your support will help us:

  • Provide expert information and advice through our helpline, online resources and downloadable guides.
  • Offer community and connection through our online forum, events and peer support.
  • Campaign for carers' rights - from fairer financial support to better recognition in health and care systems.
  • Ensure carers' voices are heard at the heart of policy decisions that affect them.

With your help, we can make sure no carer has to face their journey alone. Thank you!
