Virunga National Park, located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, is one of the most biologically diverse and ecologically significant places on Earth. Established in 1925, it is Africa's oldest national Park and a UNESCO World Heritage site, spanning over 7,800 square kilometers. The Park is home to 44 endangered species, including one-third of the world's endangered mountain gorillas, and a wide array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and over 700 species of birds. Protecting the Park's wildlife and its local communities are its 700+ Rangers. These guardians of biodiversity risk their lives daily to safeguard this ecological hotspot.
