Let’s be honest, there is never a bad time to start running, never ever! So here at Run for Charity we are hoping that many of you have opted for running on that new years resolution list! If you are thinking about beginning a serious running regimen or become a casual jogger, here are 5 reasons to start running now.
1. Relieving stress
We all have various degrees of stress in our lives. A little stress can be good to ensure you keep focused and moving forward towards your goals. However a higher level can have some pretty serious health implications - this is the stress we need to release. Great news - running is known as one of the best ways to relieve stress. Running can help clear your mind and help you make better decisions, especially in stressful situations.
2. It’s so easy to start
All you need is a good pair of running shoes and some room to move.
When you start to run, you don’t need any new kit, training or equipment. There is no expenditure needed to get you started, just find yourself a good route, a scenic path, a trail or even a mapped adventure around town. For fairweather runner’s get access to a treadmill and you are all set!
3. Boosts self-esteem
Many runners have attributed a boost in self esteem to their running. Runner’s automatically set themselves little goals that are achieved - sometimes without even knowing it. So whether you are striding to just get to the light post, or you have set your elf to achieve a 5k, half marathon or even a marathon distance - every little running win gives you a greater sense of self worth and a self esteem boost as you achieve your goals. Try it, need a little confidence pick-me-up? Get out for a run and see how you feel post run?
4. Social aspects
Running with a mate, a group of friends, signing up to a running club or challenging yourself in a charity running event all have one thing in common. They show how social running can be, and who doesn’t want to have fun? Social media also provides a great platform to engage with a large community of other runners outside your friendship circles and community. Social aspects of running are a great motivator to keep you on track and dedicated to running.
5. Charity Running Events
Charity Running events, our favorite reason to Run. Those who are seasoned charity runner’s will know how enlightening it is to support a charity and take part in a charity running event. Running for charity is a perfect way to start running as you will have the support of your chosen charity and the support of so many around you to complete your event and raise money for charity along the way.
