Founded in 1998, we have grown into a respected provider of support for people with diabetes and healthcare professionals. Our ultimate goal is to find a cure.
• We raise awareness of all forms of diabetes so that people take preventative actions and access support and guidance. • We provide support with a pro-active approach to wellness and self-care, to reduce the risk of complications and enhance quality of life. • We are funding research in the UK and around the world to better understand diabetes and ultimately to find a cure. Diabetes is a chronic and progressive disease, affecting a huge 14% of the UK population. There are currently 4.9 million people in the UK are now living with diabetes, equivalent to one in 14 people, and these numbers are rising fast. • In type 1 diabetes the pancreas fails to produce insulin and insulin injections are required for life. • In type 2 diabetes the cause is generally weight related. If you are slim it is likely your body is not producing enough insulin to convert the carbohydrate you eat into energy. You may need tablets and/or insulin to help. If you are overweight, it is more likely that insulin resistance is responsible.
