Younger People with Dementia

Thinking Differently About Dementia

Did you know dementia can affect you at any age? It does not discriminate.

Younger People with Dementia, also known as YPWD, is a registered charity operating in Southeast England. Our aim is to support people diagnosed and living with young onset dementia under the age of 65 by providing meaningful and age-appropriate services, whilst delivering support services for family members and loved ones.

Our main service is to provide activity-based workshops for people living with young onset dementia throughout the working week so that nobody feels isolated or alone. Examples of the age-appropriate activities we’ve delivered have included archery, cooking, climbing, equine therapy, and katakanuing. Our specialist team of support workers ensure there is a safe, fun and educational environment at each session, improving self-esteem, mood and cognition for participants.

Alongside running our daily workshops, one-to-one support and micro groups, we also deliver children’s groups, social events education & training and carer support.

YPWD is one of only a few dedicated services to this age group living with dementia in our region.

How Your Support Helps

The money that you raise will help us to continue to support those with young onset dementia and their families, giving them purpose and structure throughout the working week and reducing social isolation, loneliness and families reaching crisis point.

Prior to YPWD, there was very little if no support for those diagnosed with young onset dementia, many feeling unsupported in coping with diagnosis and disease progression. Traditional support groups were for over 70s and activities. offered were for the elderly and were neither meaningful nor appropriate. We want to live in a society where everybody feels included and supported. Your fundraising efforts will will help bring us closer to a society that we want to live in.

Thanks to those who volunteer, fundraise, and donate to us, we are able to deliver these integral support services for those affected by young onset dementia, providing a renewed sense of purpose and a whole new support network to their lives.
