We’re here for everyone affected by Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs) – wherever they are in the world.
Metabolic Support is the UK umbrella patient organisation for people living with and affected by IMDs – a group of around 2,000 rare conditions that vary widely in symptoms, treatment and life expectancy.
Around 40,000 people in the UK live with an IMD, while globally an estimated 1.43 million people are affected and 72,000 babies are born with an IMD every year. Together, these conditions account for almost 20% of all known rare diseases.
Our focus is simple: helping people live well with an IMD, today and in the future.
As the only patient organisation supporting people across all IMDs, we bring together individuals and families who can otherwise feel isolated by the rarity of their condition. We provide trusted information, individual support and tailored resources, create opportunities for people to connect, and make sure the experiences and voices of our community are heard.
Everything we do is shaped alongside the people we support, helping us build knowledge, strengthen advocacy and create a community where no one has to navigate an IMD alone.
And that community is truly global. In 2025 alone, we supported people in more than 70 countries.
In 2026, we became Metabolic Support – a new name that better reflects who we are and what we do: connecting, supporting and empowering the global IMD community.
Come and show your support for people and families affected by inherited metabolic diseases.
Fundraise for us and turn your support into action. Every pound you raise helps us provide vital support, amplify the voices of our community and create much-needed awareness of these rare conditions.
Take on a fundraiser. Raise vital funds. Help make sure no family faces a rare metabolic disease alone.
