James' Place

Our mission is to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis. Since opening in 2018, we’ve helped over 4,300 suicidal men access free, life-saving therapy at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 35 in England and Wales, with men accounting for 75% of all suicides. Yet only 36% of NHS talking therapy referrals are for men.

James’ Place was founded by Clare and Nick after their 21-year-old son, James, died by suicide. Despite seeking help, James didn’t receive the urgent care he needed. Clare and Nick created James’ Place to support suicidal men whose needs are not met by existing services.

In a friendly, non-clinical setting, our trained therapists help men understand and resolve their suicidal crisis. Men can self-refer or be referred by a professional or friend, and we aim to see service users within two working days.

We’re currently fundraising to open a fourth centre in Birmingham in 2026 and a fifth elsewhere in the UK in 2027.
