Heartburn Cancer UK

At Heartburn Cancer UK we raise awareness about the link between persistent heartburn, Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer.  Many people are unaware that persistent heartburn can be a sign of something more serious and we are trying to change that.

Around 8,000 people will die of oesophageal cancer in the UK each year. That’s 22 people every day. It is the 7th most common cause of cancer death overall and the 4th most common in males. However, only 12% of those diagnosed in the UK survive for 10 years, mainly due to late diagnosis. Raising awareness will lead to earlier diagnosis which is essential for successful treatment and better long-term outcomes.

Being diagnosed with Barrett’s oesophagus or oesophageal cancer can be stressful and lead to many questions. We support all those living with these conditions and provide information to members of the public who may be concerned about persistent heartburn or other symptoms.
