Smoked Mackerel Pate

Oily fish is a great source of omega three fish oils, and healthy fats are essential for a healthy diet. This quick pate is easy to make and a delicious way to eat hot smoked Mackerel as a starter. This will give you a nice boost of energy and is great  before or after a summer or winter run.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 2 hot smoked trout fillets - try peppered ones
  • ½ tub low fat crème fraiche
  • 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper
  • Rough oatcakes
  • Watercress
  • Method

  • Flake the fish off it's skin into a bowl
  • Use a fork to mash up the flesh, keeping it slightly chunky
  • Add the crème fraiche and mix up
  • Season with a little salt and some pepper
  • Squeeze in the lemon juice and give a final mix
  • Serve spread onto oatcakes with watercress on the side
