Wine Poached Pears

A delicious and different way to eat fruit that still feels like a treat. These pears also make an elegant dinner party dessert, no one will notice that they are actually healthy too. A real winner if you are craving something late at night or need a little bit more fuel after a heavy gym session or run.

Ingredients

  • ½ bottle white wine
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 50g honey
  • 1 lemon juice
  • 2 ripe pears
  • Method

  • Peel the pears, leaving the stalk on
  • Place the wine, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, sugar and honey in a pan and place on a low heat
  • Split the vanilla pod and scrape out the seeds, adding to the poaching liquid
  • Stir until the sugar and honey have dissolved
  • Add the pears for 5-15 minutes, depending how ripe they are
  • Serve alone or with a small scoop of frozen yoghurt
