Urostomy Association

Being told you will never urinate normally again is terrifying. Most people have never heard of a urostomy or urinary bypass - and cannot imagine life without a bladder.

Every year this becomes reality for almost 2,500 people across the UK, primarily because of bladder cancer or another life-limiting diagnosis. The majority undergo a cystectomy to form a urostomy and must then rely on a stoma bag - worn on the abdomen - to collect their urine, for the rest of their lives. 

So it’s vital that people have somewhere to turn for reassurance and advice, from diagnosis to living life to the full again. The Urostomy Association can provide that support.

We offer information and support through our helpline, group meetings, magazine, e-newsletters, videos and resources. 

We link anxious patients up with a reassuring community of others who live with a urinary bypass themselves, so we understand what you’re going through from personal experience.

In addition to providing practical and emotional support, our charity aims to increase awareness of urinary bypass across healthcare and the general public.
