The Stan Bowley Trust

Giving hope where once there was none

The Stan Bowley Trust was founded by Alan "Stan" Bowley. A devoted father, husband, former Staffordshire police officer, and an inspiration to all who knew him.

In 2003, Stan was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery to remove his duodenum and pancreas. As he neared his five-year all-clear, devastating news arrived: a secondary nerve sheath tumour had developed, deemed inoperable by his doctors, who gave him just two years to live.

Refusing to give up, Stan and his family researched every possible option and discovered CyberKnife, a pioneering robotic radiotherapy system capable of targeting tumours with sub-millimetre precision. With the overwhelming support of family, friends, and colleagues who raised £40,000, Stan travelled to Washington, D.C., for treatment. It was a remarkable success, eliminating the tumour and giving him precious extra time. Time to return to work, enjoy family holidays, and create lasting memories with his children.

Though Stan later passed away from an unrelated tumour, his family has always been clear: CyberKnife gave him time he would not otherwise have had. Before his passing, Stan and his loved ones established the Trust to ensure others could access the same life-changing treatment.

Since then, the Stan Bowley Trust has played a vital role in expanding CyberKnife provision across the UK, most notably at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where over 4,500 patients have now received care.

Every pound raised helps fund this groundbreaking technology and keeps Stan's legacy alive. By running for the Stan Bowley Trust, you're helping to give others more time with the people they love.
