SLEAP
Supporting 16-25 year olds at risk of homelessness from crisis to thriving
SLEAP – Support, Lodgings, Emergency Accommodation and Prevention. SLEAP works alongside young people from the point of crisis through to thriving. Preventing homelessness and ensuring it does not happen again requires more than just a roof. SLEAP provides accommodation in the homes of host families who welcome the young people as lodgers. Support is provided with life skills like budgeting, cooking, learning to do laundry… but more than that, they have people who care about them and they have somewhere to belong to. At the same time our workers support with other issues they may be facing and help them access education, training or employment.
Alongside the supported accommodation, SLEAP also provides crisis support (food and toiletries, sleeping bags, tents, coats or shoes…), bicycles to borrow so people can exercise, have fun or get to college and get about, counselling and wellbeing support groups, individual support to ensure that young people build the skills, confidence and resilience they need to succeed on their own.
SLEAP was set up by local people wanting to do something about youth homelessness. We believe people can make a difference, we believe lives can change, one small step at a time.
