Medics Against Violence
Prevention is better than cure
Medics Against Violence (MAV) is a Scottish charity (SC041153) led by healthcare professionals, working to reduce violence through a public health approach. Founded in 2008, we operate across Scotland and focus on primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
We work with young people in schools to address interpersonal and gang-related violence, and we deliver training on domestic abuse to a wide range of frontline professionals. We also run three support programmes, Navigator and Youth Navigator, based in Emergency Departments, and Pathfinder, a community-based outreach programme. These are led by support and youth workers, some with lived experience, who provide frontline support for the complex psychosocial issues that can bring people to the Emergency Department and are often linked to violence.
