Jigsaw South East
Supporting children and young people through the death of a loved one in Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
Jigsaw South East supports children and young people who are preparing for the death of a loved one and those who have been bereaved. Our aim is that they will not be alone on their bereavement journey.
We support over 900 children and young people each year through our pre- and post-bereavement Grief Support Services and work across Surrey and in nearby areas of West Kent and Sussex. We provide a Helpline, dedicated Support Workers for each family, our “Pieces” group Programme, social activities bringing bereaved families together, online Information Sessions for parents, carers, and professionals, and work with school staff and other professionals to help them support a child in their care.
Around 45% of the children and young people we support experienced a sudden or unexpected death, including suicide which can lead to feelings of guilt, confusion and anger. Whatever the circumstances, the death of a loved one is traumatic and puts children at an immediate disadvantage, potentially becoming isolated and losing self-confidence, and impacting on a child’s physical and mental health now and in the future. We help them to understand and deal with their emotions and realise they are not alone in their grief.
