GFS

All girls deserve to be happy and confident.

For many girls, this comes from school, dance classes, drama and so on. But there is a significant group of girls and young women who don’t thrive in these achievement-based atmospheres. Girls who are “different” from their peers, who struggle to make friends or be seen in bigger groups.

GFS is for those girls.

We run weekly groups for girls aged 5-13 in disadvantaged communities, where they can build healthy relationships. We aim to prevent the drop in confidence and self-esteem that comes with around age 11, rather than reversing it during the teenage years.

Activities we do at groups are non-competitive and designed to help girls achieve personal growth in six key areas that will give them the foundations to face life’s challenges.

We would like each girl to be able to say (to whatever degree is right for her):

I can speak up about things that matter to me
I am proud of who I am
I try again if I have a setback
I can try new or unfamiliar things
I believe I can achieve my hopes and dreams
I can enjoy friendships with all kinds of people
