Alcohol Concern
Improving people's lives through reducing the harm caused by alcohol
Alcohol Concern is a small charity working in England and Wales trying to change the conversations and attitudes people have about alcohol.
Alcohol is a complex issue. Alcohol is legal and people enjoy drinking. We are not anti-alcohol. However the evidence is clear: alcohol can cause a range of health problems such as stroke, cancers, high blood pressure and heart disease, and is associated with many different types of crime such as violence and antisocial behaviour. While some people can enjoy alcohol moderately and within recommended guidelines, for others alcohol can be a devastating addiction and effectively destroy their lives. It is estimated that over 1.6 million people in the UK are living with an alcohol addiction.
Our vision is of a world where alcohol does no harm.
To achieve this we:
- Help people through information, advice and guidance
- Help professionals through training, projects and research
- Help all of us through campaigning to challenge the drinking culture in our country
